A bill of sale is the receipt for a private transfer of goods — most often a vehicle, a boat or equipment. It matters because it fixes the moment ownership and liability changed hands.
Sold-as-seen wording protects the seller from later claims about condition, but it does not override consumer law where the seller is a business. For vehicles, most registries want the odometer reading recorded on the document itself.
